The findings are stark: the average SME owner loses 8 hours every week to admin — 384 hours per year, or ten full working weeks. And 83% have never even tried to calculate what that costs their business.

The report breaks down where the time actually goes (evenings, weekends, and time that should be spent on clients), what owners most want to automate (invoice chasing, client comms, reports), and why 75% have tried AI tools but only half say it saved them real time.

The defining failure isn't the technology or the cost — it's that the output is too generic. Businesses in trades, property and accounting have workflows, regulations and terminology that generic prompting never captures. That is the gap this report quantifies.
